'Having recently taken over from his father Yves, Benjamin Gras is crafting even more fine and refined wines with lower usage of oak to preserve aroma and elegance. The results have been brilliant, Santa Duc, like many domaines in the south, has amazing old vineyards and with Benjamin's push towards elegance these wines are singing'.

Another fine, elegant example of the appellation, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Saintes Vierges is mostly Grenache, with the balance Mourvèdre and a tiny splash of Counoise. Scents of roses, lavender and purple raspberries give this wine immediate charm, and while it's full-bodied, it's also silky and pure, with an almost airy feel on the palate and terrific length. Drink: 2019-2035.
